Susan Willhauck

Dr. Susan Willhauck is an author, researcher and retired theological faculty. She is Professor Emeritus of Pastoral Theology at Atlantic School of Theology where she served on the faculty from 2009-2021.  Prior to that she was Assistant, then Associate Professor of Christian Formation and Discipleship at Wesley Theological Seminary for eleven years.

Rev. Dr. Willhauck is ordained clergy in The United Methodist Church and prior to seminary teaching, served in several pastoral positions.

She is the author or editor of six books and many refereed journal articles as well as church publications. Her most recent books are Female Child Soldiering, Gender Violence and Feminist Theologies, (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019) and Qualitative Research in Theological Education: Pedagogy in Practice (Co-edited with Mary Clark Moschella). SCM Press, 2018.

She was primary researcher and co-chair of the Lead Women Pastors Project and Clergywomen’s Leadership initiatives of the UMC. Dr. Willhauck received a Wabash Teaching Grant to host an international symposium on “Teaching Qualitative Research in Theological Education to Enhance Leadership for Change in the Church,” at Atlantic School of Theology in May 2016.

She has presented numerous academic papers and served as presider or as a committee member at the American Academy of Religion with the Forum on Feminist Studies, the Teaching and Learning Section and the Practical Theology Group.  She is currently a regular contributor to The Christian Century magazine.
